We are the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Research Committee

 

The purpose of this committee is to encourage research on LGBT issues and promote LGBT voice within SIOP. The main LGBT Committee has a Working Mission Statement, which is to increase favorable attitudes and awareness of LGBT issues within SIOP, to encourage research on LGBT issues, and to promote LGBT voice and support. Within the overarching SIOP LGBT Committee are four sub-committees including the research committee as described below.

About

Outreach

 

- become a standing SIOP committee (losing 'ad-hoc' status)

- coordinate efforts with our partner, Out&Equal, and continue submitting "Study of the Month" articles

- establish professional relationships with other professional organizations, such as the Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal, etc.​

 

SIOP Planning

 

- coordinate SIOP conference activities for the Committee including the reception, the committee meeting, LGBT dinner and night-time activities

- provide stickers (or another signal) for LGBT supporters to wear at the conference

Sub-Committees of the SIOP LGBT Committee

Research 

 

- promote participation in the LGBT Research Award competition among SIOP membership

- continue to find research that can be included as a "Study of the Month"

- consider acting as a point of contact for LGBT researchers for SIOP submissions and other collaborations​

 

Policy Statement

 

- track the progress of ENDA as it moves through the legislative system

- send letters to key decision-makers at times when ENDA is being voted upon

- garner media attention around ENDA and the policy statement at these crucial decision times
